Jun 2024 Update – Celebrating a Successful Harvest & Minister Visit
June 5, 2024Sep 2024 Update – Important Deadlines for 2025 Harvest
September 5, 2024We are pleased to share some exciting updates from our persimmon farm project. Our 2024 harvest season has concluded, and we're delighted to report a highly successful year that exceeded our projected ROI. This positive outcome reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring the best returns for our investors.
2023 Activities and Harvest Overview
From August to December 2023, our team diligently prepared the trees through fertilization, pruning, and maintenance during the mild winter. Despite heavy rains and high humidity, which were 50% above average, we managed to maintain excellent fruit quality. These conditions, although reducing fruit yield, enhanced tree growth. Our strategic investments in new equipment, including tractors, a fertilizer spreader, and an ozone sprayer, have significantly boosted our production capabilities.
Technological Advancements and Market Strategies
The first half of 2024 was marked by several key activities, including the implementation of advanced technologies in our processing center. We installed new cooling rooms and expanded our packaging machinery, which improved the quality of our final product.
Our marketing strategies focused on selling to the European Union and the local market, avoiding higher-risk destinations. The result was a successful harvest, with Frutas del Paraguay becoming the first company to export fresh fruit to the European Union, a milestone celebrated by a visit from Paraguay's Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Carlos Gimenez.
ROI Performance: Exceeding Expectations
Despite weather challenges, we achieved higher-than-expected returns for our investors. Reduced operational costs due to decreased irrigation needs and fewer treatments, combined with high fruit quality and favorable international market conditions, allowed us to sell at premium prices. Consequently, we reached 103% of our projected ROI. This outcome is a testament to the team's hard work and strategic planning.
Looking Ahead: Plans for the 2025 Season
As we enter the Paraguayan winter, our trees are overwintering, setting the stage for a vigorous spring sprout. The significant growth in tree canopy and crown size from the previous cycle promises a higher production volume for the 2025 harvest. We are also constructing a new greenhouse to nurture persimmon seedlings, ensuring we can replace trees if needed and expand production (see photos).
Continued Growth and Market Expansion
After two years of efforts and administrative procedures, we recently received confirmation of the opening of the Brazilian market for our persimmons, offering a valuable nearby consumer base. Our efforts to open markets in Argentina and Chile are ongoing, as we aim to maximize our marketing options and secure the best prices for our persimmons.
We move forward with unwavering enthusiasm, confident that our efforts and strategies will continue to yield positive results while aiming to exceed expectations.
